Rev. Dr. Mark Tumney was called to serve as Lead Pastor at Bay Pres in December of 2018. Prior to coming to BPC, Mark served as Senior Pastor at Christ Community Church in Milpitas, California for 7 years, and over 25 years in Christian Ministry, in both parachurch and local church ministry. Mark graduated from Texas Christian University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. While serving with Young Life for 12 years, Mark earned a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Seminary. Mark later earned a Master of Divinity from Duke University (summa cum laude) and a doctorate from Fuller Theological seminary. Mark has a passion for sharing Christ with others, and desires to see the church equipped to fulfill its calling in both the local community and beyond.
Mark is married to Stephanie, an accomplished artist specializing in stone and bronze sculpture that convey powerful spiritual themes. Mark and Stephanie have two children, Becket and Evangeline (Evie). Mark’s personal interests include playing with his kids, making and eating good food (much to Stephanie’s delight!), playing guitar, fishing, scuba diving, gardening and composing music. Having grown up in Cleveland (Bay Village, actually), Mark is a diehard Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers fan.
Pastor of Care
We’re excited to announce the return of a familiar face. Rev. Dr. Thomas F. Madden III is coming out of retirement to serve a short three-month term as Pastor of Care providing pastoral care to the congregation. Tom served faithfully as part of our Pastoral staff for 30 years before retiring in July of 2013, and it is a true blessing to have him rejoin our staff. He will be around quite a bit over the next few months as we grow the Care ministry of the church. Tom will work with the Deacons and the Stephen Ministry as well as convalescent care, make visits to nursing homes and hospitals, perform memorials and weddings. He’ll be in and out of the building, and pitching in to help Pastor Mark in various ways until we have a full time Care Pastor.
Tom loves to see how God works in people’s lives and he has a true heart for the people of Bay Pres. We’re excited to welcome Tom back to service.
