Summer Respite for families with special needs

Every quarter we provide Respite, a free event designed to be a night off for parents of children with special needs, and a night of fun for the kids! Our guests are each paired with a trained buddy for the evening who accompanies them throughout a night of fun activities. Parents and caregivers enjoy a little break knowing their children are in a safe environment and are having fun.

SERVE AT A RESPITE EVENT:

Hosting Respite events takes a lot of coordination and a ton of volunteers. This is a great place to volunteer a few hours on a Friday night. The Respite team is a fun loving and welcoming group and we’d love to have you join us. Plus, you’ll experience first hand the impact you’re having as you bond with your buddy throughout the night. You’re also giving parents and caretakers a break, and for some of the families we serve, these quarterly Respite nights are the only nights off they get all year. It’s no surprise that every time we open registration for Respite it fills up in a few hours, and we always have people on a waiting list. When you sign up to serve you make it possible for us to open our waiting list to more guests. We can’t do this without you! If you’re interested in serving, click the SERVE button below.

Want to help with set up on Thursday or Friday (August 1 or 2)? Sign up here.

Officer Nominations Open Through July 31

Do you know someone who would make a great leader for the church? Beginning today and running through July 31, the Nominating Committee is accepting nominations for the offices of Elder, Deacon and Board of Directors. Each year the congregation elects a new class of leaders to serve and shepherd the church and congregation as officers. If these are new terms for you, here's a quick summary of the different officer roles and responsibilities:

ELDERS constitute our Session, the governing body.  Their primary role is to provide spiritual leadership in the life of the church and congregation, but also oversee that the church is fulfilling her mission and vision.  As the church’s spiritual shepherds, they are called to “prayer and the ministry of the Word” (Acts 6:4).

DEACONS fulfill and build on the Biblical calling of Luke 10: 29-37 serving the needs of those in the congregation and the community with Christ's love, compassion, and mercy following the example of the Good Samaritan. Deacons assist with financial assistance, grief ministries and senior care. Deacons are under the authority of Session.

DIRECTORS have been delegated the responsibility for oversight of the legal, financial, and administrative functions of the church.  Because of these responsibilities, Directors are selected for their business wisdom and experience and often to fulfill specific functional needs (such as law, banking, entrepreneurship, etc.). Directors are also under the authority of Session.

Ready to nominate someone? Click here to fill out the form or you can find paper copies at the Welcome Desk. Thank you for participating in this very important part of the life of our church. Questions? Contact Sharon Brumagin (440.871.3822x136). Thank you!

Christianity Explored (we're about to start!)

GET READY … Christianity Explored is here! This course is an opportunity to explore the message at the heart of Christianity – the good news of Jesus.

This 7-week course studies the book of Mark and will help to explore who He is, what He has done, and what our response should be. Each week people will walk through the Gospel message of Mark in a non-threatening, easy to understand way. Come because you have questions. Or come because you want to bring a friend or family member to whom you have been sharing with regarding Jesus and Christianity. We hope this time together will help to strengthen your faith, as well as equip you to accurately and compassionately share the truth of Jesus.

We have a variety of class offerings for you (various times & days).

Register here.

Once you register you will receive additional information by email with your starting date, location, and the name of your group leader. There is a $4 cost for your CE workbook that can be picked up at your first meeting. Please prayerfully consider coming or who you might invite to attend this course with you.  For more information, please contact Sally Gerycz.

Family Communion Sunday

We all have something to learn when it comes to worship. Children learn what it means to worship by watching their parents and adults in church. Mature Christians learn to have the faith of a child when they see children respond to the Gospel. As a church that says that we value families, this is an important part of our identity. That's why we come together for our Family Communion Sundays. We foster experiences for our kids to worship with us, and in the process we learn with them. Our next Family Communion Sunday is coming up next week (February 17th), and it's a time when our Children's Ministry takes a break so that you can bring your kids with you to worship. It's a blessing to our church to bring all ages together for these special services and we want you all to join us on the 17th, no matter how old or young you are. We'll sing together, learn from each other, share Communion together, and we'll grow in our faith as a church family.
