“LIVING CHRIST”

Living in Christ …
Living Together in Christ …
Living for Christ …

“You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him.  You’re deeply rooted in him.  You’re well constructed upon him.  You know your way around the faith.  Now do what you’ve been taught.  School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it!  And let your living spill over into thanksgiving."

Colossians 2:6-7 – Eugene Peterson, The Message

From “The Introduction to Colossians” in The NIV Application Commentary:

“The situation facing the Colossians is similar to ours today.  They faced opponents who challenged and belittled the sufficiency of Christ and their hope.  Christians today live in a secular society, which regularly scoffs at Christian faith."

  • When Christians do not understand their faith, they are likely to water down the gospel and accommodate it to cultural expectations."
  • When Christians have little confidence in their faith, they will be overly tentative in their claims and easily shaken by challenges."
  • When Christians do not live with a deep sense of gratitude for what God has done for them in Christ, they will become engulfed in anxieties and will be tempted to look for security in something other than Christ.
  • When Christians live no differently from those around them who do not know God or when they defy God’s commands, they bring discredit to their faith and cause others to think that their claims are false.
