A HIGH FIVE with SPECIAL NEEDS What’s more of a blessing than watching two teens with special needs “high-five” each other when they see each other at a picnic for teens with special needs? Not much! States a BPC parent, “My other children go off to socialize with their peers, but since my child with special needs has reached their teen years, the “typical” age-level peers that used to socialize with my child have stopped hanging out. I just wish they had activities and ways to socialize too!” Thus began the initiative to allow for social gatherings for 5th grade and older students with special needs to gather for fellowship, laughter, and fun with friends – some “typical” and some with “needs”. Enthusiastically led by Kelli McMaugh and Laurie McKee – BPC has now hosted a Bowling party in June – attended by 14 friends and a picnic at August 7th, BPC will host a trip to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo from 10 – 1. What a blessing this has become to all who attend! More fellowship opportunities are being planned for the fall! |
