Volunteering at BPC

Bay Presbyterian Church is a missional church—which means we seek to actively and personally serve others both inside and outside our church walls. Many of our members consider themselves blessed to serve throughout the community and even around the world.

But how can you be missional right at home—inside the walls of our church? By volunteering your time and talent in service to those who enter our doors. There are dozens of opportunities for everyone and anyone, regardless of your experience or available time. Here are just a few examples for Sunday morning volunteering:

Our First Impression Ministry is designed to meet, greet, and serve people as they come to BPC for Worship. The First Impression Ministry is divided into six different teams:

  • Parkers: Parkers are the first point of contact when someone comes to worship, and they do far more than help folks find a good parking place. They make people feel welcome with a warm smiling warmly and friendly hello; direct people to spots designated for guests and handicapped; offer special assistance where needed; and thank people for coming as they leave.
  • Greeters: Greeters help people feel comfortable and welcome upon entering the church. They make contact, smile, shake hands, open the door, and with time, call people by name. They will know general information about BPC, but will direct people to the Welcome and Sign in station for detailed questions. Greeters also stand at the door and thank people for coming.
  • Welcome and Sign-in: Welcome people are the next point of information after the Greeters. They staff the computer kiosks in our Gathering Area, assisting people in signing up for classes and locating information on the BPC website.

  • Escorts: When a guest inquires where a certain room is located, an escort will walk them to their location. During their walk, the Escort often answers questions about Bay Presbyterian Church and offers other information as needed.

  • Ushers: The Usher’s top priority is to greet each person warmly! They also hand out bulletins upon entering the sanctuary and find seats for latecomers. They are also responsible for collecting offering during the service. After the service the ushers walk through the sanctuary and remove leftover bulletins, communion cups and other items.

  • Hospitality: Hospitality members maintain our array of snacks and coffee on Sunday morning.

Teller Teams volunteer after every worship service. These teams are responsible for counting the offering, separating prayer requests from the offering trays, and securing the offering in the business office safe. Tellers are screened and must be highly confidential.

Other opportunities, from serving children and students to operating audio-video equipment and doing simple repairs, are available all week long! To learn more, contact Barb Harrell, Human Resources and Community Connections Director, at 440-871-3822, x110 or .
